Risk Factors of Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a disease which causes weakening of the bones and reduction of the bone mineral density due to low calcium level.

Risk Factors of Osteoporosis

1. Risk of osteoporosis in women greater than men. Because bone mass is generally smaller and women experiencing menopause.

2. Age. Risk of osteoporosis increases each time increasing age.

3. Asia and the Caucasus higher risk of osteoporosis than African race.

4. Some chronic diseases such as diabetes (diabetes mellitus), liver disease, kidney, chronic diarrhea may increase the risk of osteoporosis.

5. Smoking habits and alcohol consumption increases the risk of osteoporosis.

6. Calcium and vitamin D are less than body requirements are also risk factors for osteoporosis.

7. Exercise less risk of osteoporosis.

8. Use of drugs such as steroids, anti-seizure drugs (Phenobarbital and; Phenytoin), antacids containing aluminum, methotrexate, cyclosporine A is a causal risk factor of osteoporosis because of extraction of calcium from bones in large quantities.
