22 Causes of bronchiectasis:
1. Bacterial infections, such as: Klebsiella, Staphylococcus, or Pseudomonas.
2. Fungal infections, such as aspergillosis.
3. Mycobacterial infections, such as tuberculosis.
4. Viral infections, such as influenza, adenoviral infection, respiratory syncytial virus infection, or measles. Adenovirus and influenza virus is the main virus that causes bronchiectasis associated with lower respiratory tract.
5. Mycoplasma infection (bacteria-like microorganisms)
6. Lung tumors.
7. Enlarged lymph nodes.
8. Inhalation of gases, fumes, or particles that are toxic / hazardous (noxious fumes),
9. Aspiration or possessed by a foreign object, vomitus, or material derived from the upper respiratory tract.
10. Cystic fibrosis (pancreas disease).
11. Primary ciliary dyskinesia, including Kartagener syndrome.
